Multicast

Multicast is a Stream that can be send trough the network and be picked up by multiple clients simultaneously. This is a low cost solution if you want to include a news/tv channel inside your playlist on several devices. Stinova offers an S-Cube to handle this solution correctly, other than using DVB-T or any other tuner card on every single device. The advantage of S-Cube is that you can even stream multiple channels trough your network, using a single device. If you want to learn more about S-Cube please click here.

A Multicast can now be inserted into any playlist. Below you will find the Tutorials on how to use a Multicast with a Fullscreen-, Compoer-, and Zone-playlist.

Fullscreen Playlist

To insert a Multicast Stream into your Fullscreen Playlist is very simple. Once you opened your Fullscreen playlist, you can just drag and drop the Multicast Event (which you will find in the Events folder of the file directory).

After you have positioned the event accordingly in your timeline (along with other content), you can now edit it. Here you can set the Duration (in seconds), The video Volume (0-100), and Source (for example: 224.0.2.11:11111). After you are done preparing your playlist you can go ahead and Save, Exit, and Publish. Now your Fullscreen Playlist with Multicast is ready to Play.

Composer Playlist

There are some limitations to using Multicast inside the Composer Playlist. A multicast can only be used inside the Container, and the Container can only be placed on the first page of a Composer Playlist. One option you could set is always visible, which means the Container will continue to play it's loop of content, while the other pages keep moving in their own loop. Inside the Composer Playlist, add a Container to your Playlist (1st page), then move and resize it to your liking (keep aspect ratio will help improove the quality of playout since there will be no scaling of the video).

Then click on Manage Video/Image', next go inside the Special Events folder and drag and drop the Multicast Event inside your timeline (along with other content). Next you will be able to edit it, in the top heading you have to enter the Source URL, on the Multicast icon itself you can adjust the Duration of the Event. To finnish it up you just have to Save, Exit, and Publish your Playlist. Now your Compoer Playlist with Multicast is ready to Play.
